Class of 2016 – Life skills and Parent Partnership news

This week sees the grade 7s finishing their 3rd Life Skills session on Team Building. The students worked with Mr Quijano in the following sessions:
1. Personal Leadership- courage and decisions to take action, and teamwork basic principles
2. Leadership in Teamwork situations
3. Teambuilding to build cohesiveness
We hope to see these skills develop further throughout the year, in situations both within and outside school.

The next Life Skills session focuses on Web Fluency, in particular Cyber Safety and Plagiarism. On this theme, there will be a Parent Partnership meeting on 21st September at 6pm in the PAC which we invite and encourage you to come along to, to discuss how we can all ensure your child is safe on the internet.

Class of 2016 – Pompeii projects and Portezuelo photos

You will remember that at the end of grade 6 we met to enjoy the students impressive Pompeii projects. You can view the final videos on the ABC ICT wiki: http://abcict.wikispaces.com/Pompeii+Project-In+Plain+English+2010

We ended the year with a trip to Portezuelo and a chance to work together in our new tutor groups. Now during Life Skills lessons in grade 7, we are strengthening the bonds formed at the teambuilding centre.

Class of 2016 – Welcome to Grade 7!

After a long break to recharge the batteries we look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow for the start of grade 7. We say goodbye to 3 of our students who are all moving to other countries – we wish them all the very best – and welcome 3 new students who are joining our class of 2016 this year.

Most students will know their new tutor group (unless they have been told by me then it is the same as the group they worked with for the Teambuilding trip to Juayua). On arrival, 7A should go to room 63, 7B to room 48, 7C to room 41 and 7D to room 50. There will be lists at the gates and also with Roxana and Marielos.

See you tomorrow and here’s to another successful year!
Miss Graham

Class of 2016 – Water Day, swimming gala and more!

In order to keep the important Exam Cal information on the front page of our blog, we are behind on various posts about what the grade 6s have been up to.  Here is a brief summary.

On March 23rd, grade 6 marked World Water Day with the aim of reflecting on the importance of water as a resource as well as raising awareness of the sustainable use of water. The day’s activities included discovering facts about water and its use (presentations and science investigations), a “walk to the well” activity on the field and a quiz. We hope that the students will continue to consider how valuable water is and the ways in which they can use it responsibly.

On Friday 26th March the grade 6 students were invited to hear some grade 11 students presenting Global Issues. They attended the presentation on The Environment which again tied in with our sustainability work in Life Skills.

That same Friday, we celebrated the successes of CAL 2 with an Awards Assembly to hand out PC certificates. Well done to all students who received their bronze or silver certificate for PCs, as well as those commended for their participation in the Maths Counts competitions.

Class of 2016 – Exam timetable change

Please note the following change to the previously published exam timetable. Monday 26th April will now be a normal school day up until lunch. The first exam (music) will be after lunch. You can find the new timetable on the Exams 2010 page.

Class of 2016 – 2 weeks to go!

Exam week is fast approaching and grade 6 students should be well into their revision. Remember to check the Exams 2010 page for the topics from all the subjects, and you can now see the timetable there too.

You will also find topic details on many of the subject’s websites which can be accessed from the abc homepage using the navigation section (scroll down to the list of subjects).

Good luck grade 6!

Class of 2016 – Exam CAL

2 weeks after the Easter holidays, Grade 6 Exam Cal will begin. During the week of 26-30 April the students will sit the following 9 exams: Art, English, French, Humanities (Geography and History combined), Maths x2, Music, Science and Spanish. They will be expected to be in school, as normal, from 7am to 1.50pm. A classroom will be provided for them to revise in when they are not sitting an exam.

Victoria Keilhauer will run a Life Skills session on revision skills and exam technique to help prepare the students for their first ever week of exams.

Grade 6 students should make sure they bring all the necessary equipment for each exam – especially the utensils required for Art, and an appropriate calculator for Maths and Science. A list of topics for each of the exams can be found on the EXAMS 2010 page.

Good luck grade 6!

Class of 2016 – Pizza lunch

On March 17th we rewarded the students in 6th grade who had achieved a ROC Merit, Team sports success, over 20 PCs for Cal 2, Excellent Work Skills grades and/or significant improvement either academically or in their work skills grades, with a pizza lunch. In addition, we will have an assembly on Friday 26th to hand out Bronze and Silver certificates to the students who have reached 25 or 50 PCs respectively. PCs are awarded in recognition of a particular effort or good piece of work or in recognition that a student has maintained a consistently high standard.

Well done to all of those involved!

Class of 2016 – upcoming events

CAL 3

Cal 3 has now started and hopefully all students have chosen their extra-curricular activity.

Parent-teacher evening

The reports for CAL 2 will be issued on Tuesday 9th March in the PAC from 5.30pm. We hope you can attend and take the opportunity to discuss your son/daughter’s progress with his/her teachers.

Water Day

On March 22nd grade 6 will have a day off timetable to celebrate World Water Day. They will be looking at various aspects of and facts about water including a look at our water use to tie in with the Sustainability topic they are looking at in Life Skills. There will be a fun, as well as educational, aspect to the day.

Exam Week

Exam week for grade 6 is the week beginning 26th April. I will be sending a list of topics for each of the subjects soon and our school psychologist, Victoria Keilhauer, will be running a Life Skills session on revision and exam techniques nearer the time.
